The free weekend also celebrates the multiple hero feature becoming a permanent feature, after it was first introduced during the Tachyon Anomaly event.

Apparently the free weekend is to celebrate the start of the summer blockbuster season, which I’m pretty sure starts back in May during non-Covid years. Square Enix announced that Marvel’s Avengers will be completely free on PC (Steam), PlayStation, and Stadia from July 29 to August 1.
